Interventional Neuroradiology
This is the branch of radiology that deals with the endovascular treatment of intracranial diseases.
These procedures are mainly defined as follows:
- embolization of cerebral aneurysms through coiling technique or flow diverter implant
- embolization of AVMs (arteriovenous malformations), AVFs (arteriovenous fistulas) or dAVFs (dural arteriovenous fistulas, or fistulas localized in the dura layers)
- intracranial stenting (both for the treatment of brain stenosis and for assistance in the embolization of aneurysms)
- Desobstruction of cerebral arteries in patients with ischemic stroke
The femoral artery is accessed through catheters that have the task of engaging the aortic arch and subsequently the epiaortic vessels, until they reach the site to be treated.
Once the target is reached, other devices such as microcoils, stents or embolizing agents are inserted, depending on the pathology.
